Along Lake Michigan
Visitors to Northwest Indiana come away impressed with the majesty of Lake Michigan. A sprawling waterfront of activity and beauty, there are so many things to do and sights to see along Lake Michigan, it's hard to know where to start.
You can splash, hike and climb at the Indiana Dunes, which stretches 25 miles east from Gary, Indiana, along the southern shore of Lake Michigan.
Fishing on Lake Michigan is also quite a treat, as anglers can take fishing charters onto the water in the hopes of catching lake trout, steelhead trout, chinook salmon and more.
Lake Michigan is also popular among boaters and sailors, with thousands of visitors every year taking their motorboats, canoes and sailboats out on the lake for water adventures. The South Shore area of Lake Michigan offers a number of harbors for boat entry: Hammond Marina, East Chicago Marina and a number of marinas in Michigan City and Portage.
