Cedar Lake, Indiana

In the 1880s, the Monon Railroad started bringing tourists from Chicago to vacation in the area. At one point there were more than 50 hotels surrounding the lake. Although these hotels have since been replaced by homes and businesses, Cedar Lake has remained a popular destination.

Cedar Lake is the largest natural lake in Northwest Indiana. Numerous parks on the lakeshore offer picnic and viewing areas, public access, a boat launch, beaches and a fishing pier.  Cedar Lake Sunset Cruises have pontoon boat rides for every occasion. The Cedar Lake Yacht Club hosts weekly Sunday scow sailing and regattas. If you don't have your own watercraft, pontoon or wave runner, rentals are available for your enjoyment.

The town's annual Summerfest at the beginning of July and Hometown Fest in September are both fun for families. Golfers can enjoy Cedar Creek Family Golf Center or South Shore Country Club, which is semi-private.

Cedar Lake Ministries Conference and Retreat Center is a great place to host a retreat, conference or seminar. They also offer seasonal family recreation and camping with beach access.

Restaurants in town range from pizza and ice cream to pubs and fine dining. Boaters can dock at The Lighthouse Restaurant's pier and enjoy not only exceptional food, but an unparalleled view of the sunset over the lake.
