Old Sheriff's House
Located in Crown Point, the Old Sheriff's House remains the historical site that is famously referred to as "the escape proof jail that John Dillinger escaped from."
The building was built in 1882, with the jailhouse added to the back in 1926 with hopes of making it easier for the town's sheriff to keep an eye on the criminals being held there.
Though the home and the jail are closed, the historic site offers tours to impart its history as well as offer a close up of John Dillinger's cell, the set used in the filming of Public Enemies, the escape route John Dillinger used to get out of the jail and much more. Crown Point is also home to the John Dillinger Museum located inside the Crown Point's historic Lake County Courthouse.
